You may remember reading about a man who was fighting against an autopsy when he dies of mesothelioma cancer. His lawsuit is still in the courts, but the legal battle was against the needed autopsy to confirm that he did indeed die from mesothelioma cancer caused by his exposure to asbestos.
James Ross won his battle when the courts in King County waived the autopsy requirement. Ross believes that having a doctor diagnose him with mesothelioma cancer should be enough proof in the eyes of the law. Ross also believes that putting his wife through the extra stress of an autopsy is unnecessary.
Ross’s mesothelioma lawyers tell about a law that was first written some twenty years ago when it was harder to diagnose and confirm that a person died of mesothelioma cancer stemming from asbestos exposure. Today, tests that are more accurate are used and there should be no reason for the autopsy if the doctor confirms the patient does indeed have this form of cancer.
The judge’s order to waive the autopsy for now does not mean that a court cannot order it later on. If the litigation depends on an autopsy, it could indeed be ordered at that time. The ruling is only for now and not for later.

Researchers at the Louisiana State University and the National Cancer Institute have had research papers in their hands for decades. The research was done on people that were exposed to asbestos fibers. Some developed mesothelioma cancer and others did not. Because the researchers found some evidence that vegetables and fruits might help prevent cancer cells, they looked for fifty some people with mesothelioma cancer and fifty some people that were exposed to asbestos fibers with similar circumstances.
The findings were amazing to say the least. They found that the people with asbestos exposure remained cancer free, but they ate twice as many locally grown or homegrown vegetables and fruits as did the mesothelioma sufferers. They ate brussel sprouts, cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables. Those who suffered from mesothelioma cancer ate more pies, candy and cakes.
Later in New York, the same study was done and found that the beta-carotene in some vegetables eaten with some type of oil all least four times a week was optimal. However, they found that one thing that increased the risk of cancer was sugar. It would appear that sugar speeds up the development of cancer.
It may be possible to prevent cancer if you would eat the right foods. More research would have to be done to say this for sure.
