Minnesota University To Conduct A Five Year Study
By DrSThe University of Minnesota will begin conducting tests on those exposed to asbestos fibers. These people will be miners and their families. The tests are expected to begin in the spring of 2009. They study will be conducted to see what exactly is causing this form of lung cancer in miners. The study is expected to cost nearly 4.9 million dollars for the School of Public Health at the University.
The study will be done for on about two thousand people at the Virginia Regional Medical Center and should take six to nine months. Researchers hope to determine of there is any relationship between mesothelioma cancer and taconite dust. It is said that about seventeen miners have developed mesothelioma cancer.
They study is not only intended to find out what causes the cancer and ways to avoid the cancer. Those people that will be selected for the study will be notified by mail and will have to have a lung and heart exam, chest x-ray and blood tests.
The study should provide some answers that may be able to save people from asbestos exposure and possibly developing mesothelioma cancer. There is no mesothelioma legal advice needed as the group doing the study will cover al costs.
